Match Report: Cardiff Devils 3-2 Mountfield HK (CHL)

The Cardiff Devil’s recorded only their third ever win in the Champions Hockey League against Mountfield HK with a 3-2 victory. 

Mountfield started the stronger of the two sides as Radovan Pavlik opened the scoring mid-way through the first period. He was assisted by Mislav Rosandic and Filip Pavlik.

Mountfield had a good grip of the game in the first period with a 19-2 shot advantage over the Devils.

First Period: Cardiff Devils 0-1 Mountfield HK

The second period allowed the Devil’s to show off their penalty kill and powerplay.

Blair Riley scored his first ever CHL goal on a 5 on 3 power play. Gleason Fournier and Matt Pope did well to get the puck to the net before riley smashed the rebound in.

Just 53 seconds later the Devil’s would take the lead. New face Mike McNamee also scored on a powerplay after tipping Gleason Fournier’s slapshot in. The assists went to Gleason Fournier and Charles Linglet.

The Devils did well to defend a 5 on 3 late on in the second period to keep the score in their favour.

Second Period: Cardiff Devils 2-1 Mountfield HK

It didn’t take too long for the Devils to add a third as Mountfield lost concentration on the puck due to an incident at the bench. Sean McMonagle played a great pass into Charles Linglet who had an open lane to the goal before finding the back of the net.

Mountfield’s Petr Zamorsky took a selfish penalty for a bad boarding hit on Matthew Myers late on in the final period.

The Devil’s weren’t able to hold out the entire time conceding with just 2 seconds left on the clock as Tomas Vincour scored on the powerplay with an extra attacker as well. The assists were awarded to Radovan Pavlik and Lukas Cingel.

Third Period: Cardiff Devils 3-2 Mountfield 

The Devils will be very pleased with this win however face a difficult Grazz99ers side on Sunday.
