Match Report: Great Britain 1-7 Slovakia

Great Britain looked a step behind a Slovakia side pushing for a top four finish in the World Championships.

Slovakia fly out of the gates

David Buc set up Andrej Sekera for a strong shot which took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net to open the scoring. (02:04)

Just seconds later Slovakia would score again. Tomas Tatar would fire a shot in and it would fumble over the line to double the Slovakian lead. (02:25)

Slovakia scored again, this time on the power play. Martin Marincin slammed home a slapshot after being set up by Michal Kristof. (09:02)

Mike Hammond who has been Great Britain’s main man in front of the net had scored again to pull one back. A shot from Mark Richardson rebounded back to Hammond who slotted the puck through the goalie’s legs.

First Period: Great Britain 1-3 Slovakia

Slovakia builds on lead

Slovakia started strong in the second period with another goal from Michal Cajkovsky who placed his shot very well above the glove of Jackson Whistle. Assisted by Richard Panik. (24:33)

Marian Studenic put the puck between the legs of Whistle on a fast attack from Solvakia. Assisted by Michal Kristof. (29:09)

Matus Sukel would score a short handed goal for Slovakia to extend their lead even further. He was set up by a rebounded shot from Adam Liska. (35:11)

Second Period: Great Britain 1-6 Slovakia

Slovakia end on a high

Slovakia rounded off the game with a final goal in the last period through David Bondra. He was assisted by Patrick Koch and Ladislav Nagy. (58:00)

Third Period: Great Britain 1-7 Slovakia

Player of the Game: David Phillips, physical throughout the game with a few good checks and not allowing his man to get away from him.

GB now must beat France in their final game of the tournement to ensure they are in the top group for next time.
