Report: Cardiff Devils 4-5 Sheffield Steelers

The Sheffield Steelers extended their lead at the top of the table as the Cardiff Devils lost 5-4 at home.

Charles Linglet opened the scoring after Stephen Dixon won a faceoff to set up a hard slapshot from Linglet. Up until that point the game had been end to end and the first goal looked to be crucial.

The first period continued to go back and forth between the two sides however no attack would result in a goal.

First Period: Cardiff Devils 1-0 Sheffield Steelers

The Devils made the most of a powerplay. Mike McNamee played a perfect pass across goal to give Matt Pope the simple task of poking the puck into the net. With that goal the Devils doubled their lead.

Sheffield pulled one back through John Armstrong after he was assisted by Marek Troncinsky.

Before the Devils could regroup, they were on the penalty kill however it would prove unsuccessful with the Steelers tying the game up within a matter of minutes. Marek Troncinsky grabbed the goal after he was set up by both Ben O’Connor and Nikolai Lemtyugov.

The Devils turned the game around with a goal whilst with the extra man from a delayed penalty. Michael Davies was the goal scorer with Brendan Connolly and Aaron Brocklehurst getting the assists.

Second Period: Cardiff Devils 2-3 Sheffield Steelers

Blair Riley fired a bullet past the Steelers goalie on the powerplay to tie the game up early in the third period. Mike McNamee and Gleason Fournier were awarded the assists.

In similar fashion to the way Sheffield came back the Devils scored another goal straight away. Joey Haddad found the goal which put the Devils back in front. Charles Linglelt had the lone assist.

The Sheffield Steelers tied the game again. Nikolai Lemtyugov put his stick in front of a Michael Davies shot to deflect it past Ben Bowns for a fourth goal.

Steelers turned the game around in crazy fashion again with Marc-Olivier Vallerand scoring the ninth goal of the game. Tanner Eberle was awarded the assist.

Third Period: Cardiff Devils 4-5 Sheffield Steelers
