Match Report: Cardiff Devils 8-6 Dundee Stars

The Cardiff Devils fought back from a sluggish first and second period to take all the points at home against a very good Dundee Stars side.

Dundee Stars started extremely well after scoring  a short-handed goal. Elgin Pearce the goalscorer with Craig Gans and Jagger Dirk on the assists.

The Devils tie the game up within 2 minutes thanks to a great slapshot from Mark Richardson. Blair Riley on his return from injury gained an assist along with Gleason Fournier.

First Period: Cardiff Devils 1-1 Dundee Stars

1 minute into the second period and the Devils found themselves behind again. Drydn Dow grabbed the goal on that occasion. Matt Marquardt and Justin Maylan were awrded the assists.

Dundee were not done yet however, Elgin Pearce grabbed his second goal of the game with assists going to Justin Maylan and Shawn Boutin.

Sean McMonagle flipped the switch for the Devils as he cut the deficit to one. A great goal after being assisted by Joey Martin and Blair Riley.

McMonagle would yet again be involved however it would be on the assist next time around. Matias Sointu did well to beat Alex Leclerc and tie the game back up. An assist was also awrded to Joey Haddad.

All the hard work to tie the game back up did seem wasted with Kevin Dufour scoring on a delayed penalty. Drydn Dow and Kris Inglis with the two assists.

Dundee must have felt confident heading into the third period after scoring a fifth goal. Justin Maylan on the power play with good build up from Eglis Kalns and Jagger Dirk.

Second Period: Cardiff Devils 3-5 Dundee stars

Matt Pope gave the Devils hope early on in the third period with a great goal. Joey Martin the provider again with Mark Richardson also grabbing the assist.

After what seemed a life time, Matt Pope was awarded his second goal after it went to review. Sam Jardine grabbed an assist along with Masi Marjamaki.

The game looked like it would copy itself, the Devils tied the game up just to give up a sixth goal to the Stars, Drydn Dow scoring his second as he was assisted by Matt Marquardt and Kris Inglis.

With a bit of luck a scorcher of a shot from Gleason Fournier was to hard to keep out as it fumbled past Alex Leclerc. Masi Majamaki and Mark Richardson added to their points tally with assists.

As chants rang out around the Viola Arena for Stephen Dixon, the man of the hour would score a seventh goal for the Devils. Blair Riley and Charles Linglet the providers that time around.

Try as they might, the Stars couldnt find a goal to give tie the game up and a long range empty net shot from Matthew Myers would see the puck trickle over the lineto give the Devils a two goal lead with just one minute left of play. Mark Richardson again with an assist his fourth of the game.
